Options
Close-board / feather edge
Boards fixed on site to rails. The strongest everyday garden fence, and the easiest to repair one board at a time.
Panel fencing
Lap or overlap panels between posts. Quicker and kinder on the budget in a sheltered rear garden.
Horizontal slats
Planed boards with even gaps. A good match for newer houses in Wichelstowe, Badbury Park and the north Swindon estates.
Concrete posts and gravel boards
Timber stays out of the soil, which is where rot and snapped posts usually start. Worth it on clay and exposed plots.

Questions
How long does a new garden fence take?
A typical 15–20 metre rear garden is often one to two days, including taking the old fence away. Slopes, services and long runs take longer — the quote says so.
What fence is best for privacy near a busy road?
A 1.8m close-board or overlap panel with no gaps. Horizontal slats look sharp but let light through unless you ask for a closed-board version.
