Decking FAQs

Common questions about our decking service

Timber or composite decking β€” which should I choose?

Timber is more affordable and looks very natural. Composite is more expensive upfront but requires almost no maintenance. We will help you weigh up the options.

Does a decking require planning permission?

Most garden decking does not need planning permission, particularly if it is under 30cm from ground level. Raised decks near boundaries may need approval β€” we will advise.

How long does decking installation take?

A standard garden deck takes 2–4 days. Larger or more complex projects with multiple levels, steps and balustrades will take longer.

How do I maintain a timber deck?

Treat the timber with a quality decking oil or stain every 1–2 years. We apply an initial treatment on completion and advise on ongoing care.

Can decking be built on a slope?

Yes. A raised deck can actually be an excellent solution for a sloped garden, creating a level usable area. We design the supporting structure to suit the ground conditions.
